Media Release:

2021 Outdoor Season Update

The Vermilion Soccer Association (VSA) Executive met on April 18, 2021 to review and discuss the operations for the upcoming 2021 Outdoor Season.  When the information was gathered and reviewed, it was the decision of the Executive to suspend the opening and operation of the 2021 Outdoor Season for the following reasons:

  • As result of the Alberta Health order {CMOH Order 10-2021:  Section 8.15} requiring all coaching staff to be trained for sporting organizations, VSA was required to have volunteer coaches be in process of or completing age groups specific training, this requirement resulted in lower than expected volunteers and therefore we have not  been able to acquire the  sufficient  quota of coaches.

  • The numbers of volunteers required to successfully operate a sporting club like VSA were not attainable this season to assist with the needed work such as field preparation and all related covid-19 protocols to be managed during soccer sessions twice a week.

  • The covid case numbers in our local area have risen in the recent weeks and have impacted the planning and operation of many clubs/organizations, businesses and everyday events.  Families are worried and are feeling uncertain, VSA acknowledges this and wishes to support families by reducing stress and worry related to participating in soccer events (return to train).

The Executive would like to acknowledge the families who continue to support soccer and VSA, we are grateful for your support.  We would also like to extend our appreciation to those members who dedicated many hours over the past few months in prepping for a different kind of return to the pitch to keep our members safe; we thank our partners; Vermilion Provincial Park, Lakeland Soccer and the numerous community businesses like CornerStone Coop for their willingness to help our community return to normalcy.  The VSA Executive is disappointed that we could not offer an outdoor season this year - here is hoping we can all gather once again on the pitch and enjoy soccer together in 2022.  Until then please stay active and maintain or enhance your soccer skills - be sure to check out ASA website for drills and activities - Go Strikers!

Arrangements will be made to return fees in full to all paid members - please watch your email for communication from the Registrar.  If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us: .

COVID 19 Update - Apr. 28, 2020

Executive members continue to follow and monitor the current COVID-19 situation as it  unfolds so  we may be on top of any actions VSA is required to take.

Here is the newest information:

  1. Dr. Hinshaw -Alberta Medical Executive Officer of Health released April 23 & 24, 2020 in her statement that all summer events will be cancelled in order to help in the battle against COVID-19 and help flatten the curve.

    1. This is now a ministerial order and directive that has been issued to all Albertans.

    2. With that being said and the directive effectively in place - VSA has no other option than to cancel the 2020 Outdoor Season.

  2. VSA will issue full refunds of registration fees and bonds.  VSA will be in touch directly with families regarding the return of cash funds and make arrangements.

    1. Families who made payment with cheques- these cheques will be shredded to reduce the cost and risks associated with mailing the returns.  It is suggested that you note these cheques as cancelled/stop payment.   If you are so inclined you may contact your financial institution.

  3. A reminder the Vermilion Provincial Park remains closed to vehicles and park usage as per order of the Government of Alberta and will remain for the summer months.  There is no access to the soccer fields at this time.

  4. VSA will continue to share and support player challenges and skill development opportunities from home for  those interested through Facebook/VSA Website.  Alberta Soccer Association (ASA) will have information about player challenges and development opportunities to do from home - check out their website

  5. If you are a VSA coach and want to continue your learning and skill development - check out the ASA website as they will be offering online courses and learning opportunities for free

  6. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to any member of the VSA Executive or send your email to Vermilion Soccer - all contact information may be found on our website.

Thank you for your patience and we hope to see you all back in the 2021 Outdoor Season,

VSA Executive

VSA realizes that these are unprecedented times and we are all trying to make the best of our current situation, soccer has not been exempted from this.   Executive members have been meeting regularly and remaining in touch with Lakeland District Soccer; likewise Lakeland District Soccer has remained connected to Alberta Soccer Association (ASA).  Canadian Soccer Association (CSA) has been involved with communicating to all Provinces and is helping guide the decision surrounding the upcoming 2020 outdoor season.

Here is what we know:

  1. To date there has been no formal decision to close the 2020 outdoor season - there will be more updates shortly and as VSA receives these, we will share with our members/families.
  2. If the season is to proceed, it will be an adjusted season.  As to what that looks like - that has yet to be determined. Thoughts that come to mind are - starting late May and going until end of June {condensed season}; running soccer over the summer months; later summer start that includes September …. the possibilities truly are unknown at this time.
  3. VSA has all registrations and associated fees held.  No cheques have been cashed. VSA will hold all player information and pending final decision from Lakeland/ASA - that will determine the action needed on processing the registrations.  Should the soccer season be cancelled, VSA will return all funds, in full, to families.
  4. No players are permitted on the soccer fields at this time due to no insurance coverage as there is no start date for the season.
  5. The Provincial Park is off limits to vehicles as per order of the Government of Alberta.  There is no access to the soccer fields at this time.
  6. The late fee for registrations for the 2020 outdoor season has been waived as there is a clear disruption in the processes in place to submit registration.
  7. The deadline for registration will be extended - at this point in time there has been no set closing date of registrations as we wait to hear more and plan accordingly.
  8. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to any member of the VSA Executive or send your email to Vermilion Soccer - all contact information may be found on our website.

Thank you for your patience and we will be in touch soon,

VSA Executive

Outdoor season unknown at this time...

posted Mar 30, 2020, 8:50 AM by Vermilion Soccer Assn. Communications Director

While we patiently wait and watch the news, following guidelines of Alberta's chief medical officer, I know many of us are anxious to know if our soccer athletes will be able to participate in an outdoor season this spring. At this point in time we must continue to wait. Please be assured that VSA will provide full refunds if the outdoor season is cancelled, no cheques have been processed at this time.
We are waiting for direction from health authorities, ASA and Lakeland Soccer. We hope to have an update for you within the next couple weeks.
Stay healthy everyone!
